What was life and culture like in late antique Egypt?

Late antique Egypt spans from the late third century to the seventh century AD, encompassing the late Roman Empire, the Byzantine period, and the Muslim conquest. It was characterized by the transformation of Roman provincial society, the expansion of Christianity, and the development of Coptic literature alongside continuing Greek and Egyptian traditions. Because of abundant surviving papyri and archaeological remains, historians can study its administration, villages, labor, literacy, and religious practices in great detail.
