How did Italy become a unified nation?

The unification of Italy, known as the Risorgimento, was a 19th-century political and social movement that united the Italian Peninsula into a single kingdom. Driven by rebellions, wars against Austrian dominance, and key leaders like Cavour and Garibaldi, the process culminated with Rome becoming the capital in 1871. Some historians view the movement as extending through World War I until Italian irredentism achieved its final territorial goals.
