How did Disney animation change during the 1970s and 1980s?

During the 1970s and 1980s, Walt Disney Productions underwent significant corporate restructuring and changes in studio identity. In 1983, the live-action division became Walt Disney Pictures, separating from the feature animation division and creating Touchstone Pictures. Later, during a 1986 corporate restructuring, the animation studio was renamed Walt Disney Feature Animation to differentiate it from other corporate divisions as the company grew into an international media conglomerate.
