What does an emergency medical technician do?

An emergency medical technician (EMT) is a healthcare professional who provides emergency medical services, primarily basic life support, on ambulances and in fire departments. They operate under protocols usually written by a physician and work alongside other professionals like paramedics. In some regions, such as parts of the United Kingdom, traditional technician roles are being phased out in favor of alternative support worker roles.
